は、「Converge」というコンセプトと iconic、absolute、honest、pure の 4つのキーワードで構成されています。まるで、2つの線が 1つにシームレスにできあがっているのが、XPS 13
や XPS 15
、XPS 13 2 – in – 1
！最も重要なのがディスプレイ！これまでと同じ SHARP 製。ただし、ベゼル幅をこれまでよりも 3.5mm 縮小！だからといって、強度を捨てるといった妥協をすることなく Corning® 社の Gollira Glass によって強度を維持し、美しい Infinity Edge ディスプレイを実現しています。また、アルミニウム製ユニボディを CNC で削り出し、プラスティック製部品などと 1つに組み立てする際にも角などが立つことなくシームレスなボディを実現しています。また、航空宇宙業界や F1 などの自動車業界からもインスピレーションを受け、PC 業界初の 3K Carbon Fiver を採用することで製品強度を確保。また、これまでよりも薄く、軽くなっていてもユーザーエクスペリンスを犠牲にすることなく、これまでと同様のキーストロークを実現しています。さらに、トラックパッドなどにはシリコンを混ぜることで違和感なくスムーズに操作ができます。
今回のプレゼンテーションのお話から見ても、これまでの無骨なイメージの強かった DELL の製品イメージが払拭されました。こういった製品開発の裏側が見えてくると、ガジェット好きにはたまらなかったりします。実際、余裕があれば欲しかったり・・・（汗）今後も、こういった製品発表が聴けたらいいなぁ[壁]_・)ﾁﾗｯ
※ 余談ですが、Michael 氏は、まだ時差ボケだったとのこと。ただ、即帰国されたようなので、治ることもなく時差はそのままだったのでしょうかね・・・？とか思ったりしました。
さて、今回は新製品発表会イベントレポート第 1弾ということで、XPS 13 2 – in – 1 のプレゼンテーションについてレポートしました。次回は、ゲーミング編へ突入します！
